A weekly magazine that provides information on the music and home entertainment industries. Includes charts, reviews, articles, events, marketing and new media developments.

Billboard was started in 1894 to provide coverage of travelling carnivals. The music coverage grew as the music industry grew until the 1950's at which point other entertainment coverage was transferred to another publication and Billboard concentrated exclusively on music.

The Billboard name is now synonymous with music charts. The magazine provided it's first 'popularity chart' in July 1940. The charts provided over the years have varied with the changes in the music industry. The current hot 100 chart is compiled from radio airplay and, to a lesser extent, singles sales.
