The album is a collection of live recordings of the Kentucky Colonels put together to give the impression of a continuous live performance - hence the inclusion of all the between song talk and comedy sketches. The tracks were recorded between September 1961 and April 1965. The introduction by Garcia, the first introduction on the album, was recorded at the Comedia Theatre, Palo Alto on November 15, 1964. He says; "I'd like to introduce from the Newport Folk Music Festival and the Monterey Folk Music Festival and from the Ash Grove and various other places around the country, the best young bluegrass band in America, The Kentucky Colonels.The CD liner notes give brief notes for each track. The following is included for the Garcia introduction; During the lifespan of the Kentucky Colonels, they made some long and lasting friends and Jerry Garcia was one of them. Jerry and Sandy Rothman traveled with the Colonels in the Summer of 1964. This stage introduction of the band came at a concert put together by Brooks Adams Otis and marked the Colonels last appearance in the Bay Area..Reissues Reissued 1979 on Briar SBR 4202 Reissued on CD in 1997 by Sierra SXCD 6018 (discography details taken from this release) Garcia contributed to the liner notes of later releases of the Kentcky Colonels LP;
