Retrospective Dreams is a collection of remixed and remastered individual and collaborative recordings by the group and group members from 1971-1978. It includes their unreleased 1971 Atlantic LP (tracks 1 to 8), several tracks from the limited release album, recorded under the group name Oasis, and other songs from demos and recording sessions.

The group name derives from their names; R from Richard Hovey, J from Joel Siegel, and Fox from Sherry Fox.
