Big Boy Pete was first performed by the Grateful Dead in 1966. The song was performed a few times in 1969 and 1970. It was played in an acoustic set in 1978 and then for the last time in November 1985. The song was played by Phil Lesh & Friends in January 2015.

Big Boy Pete was a minor hit (#50 in the pop charts) in 1960 for the Olympics who covered it a year after the first release by Don and Dewey.
