Big Boy Pete was first performed by the Grateful Dead in 1966. The song was performed a few times in 1969 and 1970. It was played in an acoustic set in 1978 and then for the last time in November 1985.

Big Boy Pete was a minor hit (#50 in the pop charts) in 1960 for the Olympics who covered it a year after the first release by Don and Dewey.
