Notes

Written by Carmichael with his old school friend Gorrell in 1930. First recorded by Carmichael in September of that year.

After the success of the Ray Charles version of the song it was adopted a the official state song of Georgia. Charles performed the song in the state legislative chamber after the vote to adopt the song.
