Notes

This song is based on the poem The Border Affair by Charles Badger Clark. The poem was first published in the Pacific Monthly in 1907 and subsequently collected in Sun and Saddle Leather in 1915.

Bill Simon put a melody to the poem, possibly in the 1930's. Subsequently the music was amended to produce the song as we know it today.

The song now appears to be in the public domain and therefore often occurs as 'Traditional' on recordings.

The song sometimes occurs on recordings as Spanish Is A Loving Tongue.
