Texas Crapshooter was played by Phil Lesh, Larry Campbell, Teresa Williams and Jackie Greene during an acoustic set at the Bonnaroo Festival in 2008.

This instrumental was possibly first released, with the title Texas Skiparoo, by The Farr Brother in 1947. This recording credits Hugh and Karl Farr as the composers. Hugh Farr later credited a relation, Larken Williams, as a co-composer, and some later recording credit Williams and Hugh Farr. The Farr Brothers were members of The Sons Of The Pioneers.

Most later recordings are as Texas Crapshooter. Some of these, for example the Bobby Hicks recording, credit the performer as the composer - perhaps reflecting the uncertain origins of the tune.
