On Jerry Garcia releases the writing credits for Turn On The Bright Lights are given to Albert Washington. However on the Albert Washington single and CD collection and on the ASCAP online database the credits are Harry A. Carlson. Carlson was the founder and manager of Fraternity Records for which the Washington version was first recorded. Carlson was also a songwriter and a veteran of dance bands of the 1930s.

The original recording, which features Lonnie Mack on guitar, was released on the Fraternity label in the US in 1969. In the UK it was released on the President label. This track is included on the 1999 collection
