The Grateful Dead performed part of this song, mixed up with the song Bo Diddley, in 1972. They also performed it with the Neville Brothers in 1986. The song performed by the Grateful Dead with Bo Diddley on March 25, 1972, though listed as Hey Bo Diddley on Dick's Picks 30, was Bo Diddley.

Jerry Garcia, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann performed the song with Doug Sahm and others on November 23, 1972. Jerry Garcia also performed the song with Howard Wales in 1972. The version of the song on the Jerry Garcia box set All Good Things is a previously unreleased outtake from the 1975 Reflections recording sessions.

First recorded by Bo Diddley on 8th February 1957 at the Beltone Studios in New York during the same session as the first recording of Mona. The two songs were first issued on the same single in 1957. Writing credits are Ellas McDaniel, the real name of Bo Diddley. This often appears incorrectly on recordings and elsewhere as Ellis McDaniels or other variation.
