Junco Partner
Composer: Traditional / Bob Shad / Robert Ellen / James Wayne

Junco Partner was played by the Jerry Garcia Band, with James Booker on piano, in January 1976. The song was also performed by 7 Walkers and by Phil Lesh & Friends.

On recordings the song occurs as both Junco Partner and Junko Partner. The song appears to have been first recorded by James Wayne (or Waynes) in 1951 and released on the Sittin' In label. The song is registered to Bob Shad, the owner of the Sittin' In label, and Robert Ellen, a name used by Bob Shad on compositions. It is uncertain if the song was written by James Wayne or by Bob Shad. Junco Partner is partly based on an earlier song or group of songs called Junker Blues or Junker's Blues. The writing credits on recordings are usually Shad or Shad/Ellen but are sometimes Traditional.
