The song was written by Allen Toussaint in the early 1970's and probably first released on the Bazaar album by Sylvester in 1973. The title on that release was Play Something Sweet. During the next few years the song was released by a number of groups and performers including Three Dog Night, Frankie Miller and Maria Muldaur. The titles used on these recordings are either Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues) or Brickyard Blues or Play Something Sweet. The Three Dog Night single release of the song reached #33 in the Billboard Hot 100.
