Raw Hide

Raw Hide was played by the Black Mountain Boys in March 1964, It was performed by the Good Old Boys in February 1975 with Jerry Garcia sitting in on banjo. It was also one of the tunes played by Jerry Garcia during a banjo lesson / demonstration on April 14, 1964.

The song was written, as Raw Hide, at the start of the 1950's and first recorded by Bill Monroe in 1951. The piece quickly became a Monroe signature tune and a bluegrass standard. Early recording were as Raw Hide. Subsequently this has generally become Rawhide.
