Grateful Shred were formed in 2016. The original line-up of the group was Austin McCutchen, Sam Blasucci, Clay Finch, Dan Horne and Austin Beede. The group primarily play Grateful Dead songs and other songs from the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir repertoires. They have released a number of live recordings during their existence. Their first studio album was released in 2025.

The current (2025) line-up of the group is: Austine Beede, Dan Horne, Alex Koford, Zeph Ohora, Adam MacDougall, Austin McCutchen, and John Lee Shannon
