Phil Lesh: School and college bands and orchestras: 1954 to 1960

1954 : El Cerrito High School

Phil Lesh played in El Cerrito High School marching and concert bands after starting to play trumpet instead of violin.

1955-57 : Berkeley High School

Phil Lesh played trumpet in the band, the orchestra and the dance band at Berkeley High School.

1958-60 : College of San Mateo

Phil Lesh wrote for and played trumpet in the College of San Mateo jazz band. A tape of the band exists with Lesh playing on five pieces: I'll Remember April; Wail Frail; Finnegan's Awake and two whose titles are not known.

195? : Hanson's Young People's Symphony Orchestra

Phil Lesh played first trumpet for this orchestra.

195?/196? : Oakland Symphony Orchestra

Phil Lesh played second trumpet for this orchestra.
