The song was originally recorded by Jimi Hendrix in May 1997 and first released on the Axis: Bold As Love album in the UK at the end of 1967. The US version of the album was released early in 1968. On the UK album the title is If Six Was Nine, on the US album the title is If 6 Was 9. Both title have subsequently been used.
