She's More To Be Pitied
Composer: Ruby Rakes

She's More To Be Pitied was played by the Black Mountain Boys on the 6th and 7th March 1964.

Ruby Rakes is the name used on song credits for Ruby Rakes Eubanks, who was a half sister of the Stanley Brothers. She was assigned the rights to a number of songs written by the Stanley Brothers. The actual writer of the song was probably Carter Stanley.

The Stanley Brothers songs appears to be based on the 1898 song She's More To Be Pitied Than Censured.

Lyrics

The lyrics of the version performed by the Black Mountain Boys on March 6th 1964 are as follows;

She's there at the bar every evening
Face powdered and cheeks painted red
Her beauty has faded too early
Brought on by the fast life she's led.

She's more to be pitied than scolded
She needs to be loved not despised
Too much beer and wine, too many good times
The lure of the honky tonk wrecked her young life.

She once was the belle of the ballroom
She'd married some man (a sweet wife?)
But too many parties, the wrong kind of (house?)
Has spoiled her happy young life.

She's more to be pitied than scolded
She needs to be loved not despised
Too much beer and wine, too many good times
The lure of the honky tonk wrecked her young life.

She's more to be pitied than scolded
She needs to be loved not despised
Too much beer and wine, too many good times
The lure of the honky tonk wrecked her young life.
