China Cat Sunflower was played regularly between 1968 and 1974, then only once between 1975 and early 1979. It then returned to a regular place in the repertoire. The song was released on the Aoxomoxoa album.

China Cat was once of the first two lyrics provided by Robert Hunter for the Dead. In the Box Of Rain book Hunter notes: "Nobody ever asked me the meaning of this song. People seem to know exactly what I'm talking about. It's good that a few things in this world are clear to all of us."

The first appearance of Corrina on an official release was the live version on the Other Ones The Strange Remain album. A Bob Weir/Ratdog studio version was included on Evening Moods. Live Grateful Dead versions have subsequently been released.

Cosmic Charlie was played about 50 times between the end of 1968 and the start of 1971. It made a brief return to the repertoire in 1976 and then disappeared permanently.

Dark Star was the first lyric that Hunter wrote with the Dead. The song was first performed, without lyrics, in September 1967. The lyrics were first performed in December 1967. Dark Star was played regularly through to 1973 but after that only sporadically.

In the book of collected lyrics Box Of Rain Robert Hunter notes: "Unused lyrics I wrote to some rudimentary changes by Bob Weir that eventually became The Music Never Stopped."
