The Grateful Dead on Arista

The Grateful Dead signed with Arista toward the end of 1976. All their mainstream albums from that time until 200? were released by Arista, latterly in association with Grateful Dead Records. Albums by group member bands; Jerry Garcia Band, Vince Welnick's Missing Man Foundation, Bobby & The Midnites, Phil Lesh & Friend and Ratdog were on the label. The first Silver LP with Brent Mydland on keyboards, was also released on Arista.

Terrapin Station

The first Grateful Dead LP on the Arista label released in July 1977. An expanded version of the album, with mainly additional studio music, was released in the Beyond Description box set in 2004 and as a single CD in 2006.

Shakedown Street

The second Arista album was released in November 1978. Shakedown Street was the last Grateful Dead studio album to include Keith and Donna Jean Godchaux. An expanded version of the album, with mainly additional live music, was released in the Beyond Description box set in 2004 and as a single CD in 2006.

Cats Under The Stars, Jerry Garcia Band

The first album to be credited to the Jerry Garcia Band. Cats Under The Stars was released in April 1978 and was the first Garcia release on Arista. Garcia said about the album, "The record I worked hardest at and liked best was Cats Under The Stars. That was kind of like my baby. It did worse than any other record I ever did. I think I probably gave away more copies than I sold." An expanded version was included in the All Good Things box set in 2004 and then released as an individual CD in 2005.
