Rainy Day Women #12 & 35 was performed twice by the Grateful Dead with Bob Dylan during the Dylan & The Dead tour in July 1987. It was also performed as the encore of the October 17, 1994 show with Bob Dylan sitting in. These were the only Grateful Dead performances of the song.

Rainy Day Women was played by Jerry Garcia with Bob Dylan during the Dylan set on June 25, 1995, at RFK Stadium, Washington.

The song was first recorded by Dylan on March 10, 1966. A working title for the song used during recording sessions is reported to have been A Long Haired Mule And A Porcupine. The single reached number 2 in the US pop charts.
